The Refinery

In accordance with the decision of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, in 1992, Karabalta Mining Combine JSC (KGRK) built a “Refinery”, which refines all gold and silver extracted from the depths of the republic. Since 1993, due to the small volume of gold production in the republic, the production of refined gold has been up to 2 tons per year.

In connection with the commissioning of the Kumtor gold deposit, which is not only one of the largest deposits in the Kyrgyz Republic, but also in the world, reconstruction was carried out at the refinery in 1996, as a result of which the production capacity for producing gold bullion was increased to 40 tons per year. In addition, changes were made to the technological scheme for processing gold-containing raw materials, allowing the processing of Doré alloy with a high silver content.

As a result of the reconstruction of the plant, a chlorination section for Dore alloy was organized, the supply of which from the Kumtor deposit began in March 1997.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic “On measures for the further development of gold mining and production in the Kyrgyz Republic” dated January 15, 2001, refining and gold mining operations were transferred to Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC.

Currently, the Refinery branch of Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC produces standard (bank) gold bars weighing about 11-13 kg, small gold bars weighing 1000 grams and 100 grams of the highest standard - 999.9, standard silver bars weighing about 25 kg of 999 fineness.

Determination of the quality of gold in finished bars is carried out at the Central Research Laboratory (CRL), which is part of the KGRK. In March 1998, this laboratory received accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to conduct analytical analyzes on Doré alloy, and to certify bars: Gold bars - 999.9 fineness, Silver bars - 999 fineness.

The refinery has had a “Good Delivery” quality certificate from the London Bullion Market Association since October 1999, which puts the refinery production in the Kyrgyz Republic on a par with the world's best producers of refined gold. Today the plant's production capacity is 40 tons of gold per year. Joint ventures created by Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC to develop the Jerooy and Taldy-Bulak Levoberezhny deposits have committed to process the mined precious metal at the Refinery of Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC.
