Dumps and tailings at the Makmal deposit
The deposit was mined by open pit mining from 1986 to 2003. During the operation of the quarry, the Makmalzoloto plant produced more than 30.0 tons of gold.
Since 2003, in connection with the completion of the development of quarry reserves, the development of reserves of the Makmal deposit by underground methods began.
The Makmal deposit is located in the Toguz-Toro district of the Jalal-Abad region.
To date, there are 9 rock dumps at the field, where, according to rough calculations, the volume is about 7.9 million tons. Currently, rock dumps are being studied, where the gold content ranges from 0.5 g/t to 1.2 g/t.
According to the geological report on the studied part of the dumps, 3.9 million tons of rock dumps with an average metal content of 0.69 g/t are subject to development and transportation. Gold reserves in categories C1+C2 contained in the explored part of the dumps amount to 2716.3 kg.
Based on the practice of discovering areas with gold content up to 1g/t and higher in rock dumps, as well as taking into account the favorable factors of the presence of significant concentrations of gold in the rock dumps of the Makmal deposit, Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC intends to further evaluate the quantity and quality of potential resources for their further development using the heap leaching method with the creation of a joint venture.
The second promising object of cooperation is the processing of the inactive tailings pond No. 1 of the Makmal gold mining plant, which is located in close proximity to the gold recovery plant. The tailings material is represented by cyanidation waste, the degree of grinding is up to 0.074 mm (70%). The tailings storage facility contains 11.8 million tons of tailings with an average content of 0.45 g/t and containing 5368.5 kg of gold.
When processing tailings with a capacity of up to 1 million tons of ore per year, the period of supply of raw materials to the factory will be at least 10 years.
